Missions Photographer

[mish-uh ns] [fuh-tog-ruh-fer]

noun

1. a person who is sent to a foreign country to take professional photographs with the intent of communicating a story.

Have you ever returned from an amazing missions trip and caught yourself saying “if only you could have seen it in person…this picture just doesn’t do it justice” or “if only I had a picture of _________.”

You see a lot of times what happens is people think “oh we’ll snap some pictures during our trip for a nice slideshow.” Then upon returning to the states, you have a such a great story about the work that you did, but you were so busy doing the work that there is no picture to accompany the story. That’s where the value of having a designated photographer comes in. If you don’t have the tools to tell the story accurately, who will?

The benefit of traveling overseas with Justin Willet is the unique experience that he brings to the field. Having traveled to 12+ countries, Justin is no stranger to traveling photography. Specializing in missions/non-profit photography, we believe in sharing your story with the people who may never see it for themselves. As both a photographer and graphic designer Justin is familiar with the style of shooting that will best suit your relational and marketing needs. Our goal is to provide you with the resources you need to communicate your vision with the rest of the world. Justin is available for world-wide travel to help you capture the stories that are happening wherever it is that you are.

Below is a recap from the Instagram series #JustinWilletAroundTheWorld. This series focused on missions photography and highlighted many of the amazing stories we’ve had the privilege to shoot.

Mozambique Woman

Location: Gorongosa, Mozambique
Year: 2012

Hope you’ve enjoyed the #JustinWilletAroundTheWorld series. Here’s the final picture from the set. This is one of my all time favorite pictures. This woman and I never spoke a single word to each other but seeing her portrait for what may have been the first time brought her so much happiness.

Cap Haitien, Haiti

Location: Cap Haitien, Haiti
Year: 2013

In 2013 I co-lead a trip to Cap Haitien with Macedonian Ministries (www.macedonianministries.org) and a medical evaluation team. Our goal was to assess the rural communities and evaluate whether they were in need of relief meals or sustainability methods. Growing up I wanted to be a Cowboy and one of the communities we visited was only accessible by donkey’s and mules. Needless to say I loved every minute of it.

Rural Chennai, India

Location: Rural Chennai, India
Year: 2014

A little cricket can breakdown language barriers and build life long relationships. On a vision trip with Ends Cycling (www.endscycling.com) I had the opportunity to join the locals in a game of cricket. Having previously learned the game in New Zealand I was happy to jump in and join the fun. Have you ever tried it?

Managua, Nicaragua

Location: Managua, Nicaragua
Year: 2012

The smile says it all. This picture was taken during a vision trip with Stop Hunger Now (www.stophungernow.org) and Willet (www.willetonline.com). The meal this girl is eating was funded, packed and shipped by individuals & families who were willing to help provide a meal to someone less fortunate.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Year: 2014

After a long day of shooting in Thailand, we stopped in these thatch roof huts for lunch which consisted of fish and rice. I couldn’t help but capture the peaceful surroundings.

Port-Au-Prince, Haiti Earthquake Palace

Location: Port-Au-Prince, Haiti
Year: 2010

The destroyed Haiti palace is perhaps one of the most recognizable images from the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. I was fortunate to capture this image between traveling in and out of the country with relief teams and medical supplies. During this time my brother and sister-in-law were currently living and operating out of Port-Au-Prince and Aux Cadet.

Mozambique, Africa Hut

Location: Mozambique, Africa
Year: 2011

For nearly 2/3 of our world this is what home looks like. The majority of my international travels have been trips with the goal to capture the way people live and return to the States to tell their stories. This photo pretty much sums up the daily challenges of life in Gorongosa, Mozambique.

Chiang Mai, Thailand Bikes ends cycling

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Year: 2014

In June I had the unique opportunity to accompany Ends Cycling (www.endscycling.com) to Thailand. This amazing cycling organization organizes rides all over the USA to “recruit, mobilize and empower Christ-followers to use cycling to transform the lives of global youth.” This past year’s rides benefitted the youth of Thailand and I was a part of helping capture the follow up trip to witness how those funds were being used to benefit Thai youth.

What are some creative ways to use your passions to help others?

Chiang Mai, Thailand Temple

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Year: 2014

This past June I had the opportunity to travel with Ends Cycling (www.endscycling.com) to #thailand. People travel from all over the world to make sacrifices at Buddhist temples similar to this. My heart breaks for those who spend a lifetime suffering without finding the true Savior (Jesus Christ). #JustinWilletAroundTheWorld

Ethiopia, Africa Camel Herd

Location: Ethiopia, Africa
Year: 2009
While riding in the back of a land rover with Food for the Hungry (FH) (www.fh.org) to a remote community outside of Zeway, Ethiopia we came across this massive camel herd that was migrating south. 20 seconds after this photo was taken the camel herder (a young teen boy) threatened to throw rocks at us for disturbing his herd. After our translators communicated that we didn’t want to harm his camels he calmly walked away and we continued on our way.
