5 Steps to grow your Small Business Online
Step 1: CREATE A MEMORABLE LOGO
If people can’t pronounce the name of your company or quickly forget what it’s called, how can they tell their friends about you? You spend a lot of time and money trying to get people to notice your brand. Make sure it’s one they won’t forget. Creating a good logo should be step one for any business.
Step 2: SELL YOUR PRODUCTS OR SERVICES ONLINE
Imagine going to sleep at night and waking up to an email with your earnings from online sales. Don’t under estimate the value of a 24/7 selling machine. Although there is some upfront cost to set up an online store, the passive income can quickly fund your entire business. If you don’t sell physical products, let your website sell your services. List what all you have to offer and how they can hire you.
Step 3: SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY
We’re all familiar with the phrase “you have to spend money to make money.” Unfortunately, most small businesses don’t have much capital to invest in marketing or advertising; therefore, they feel trapped. The key to making the most of your marketing budget (regardless of how large it may be) is knowing where to spend it. Are you paying for services that you don’t really need, or are you investing in worthwhile materials that help promote your business? For example, if your business cards look cheap, clients will assume you put as much effort into your work as you did your business card. Focus on having a few well done materials opposed to many poorly done resources. Consider this: When was the last time your hired a “sketchy” looking company?
Step 4: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE GOOD AT EVERYTHING
Be good at what you do and outsource work that isn’t your expertise. Let’s face it, most small businesses are run by a few dedicated employees who believe in the business and would do anything to make sure it lasts. However, your small roster of employees may have limited marketing experience, no design knowledge, or most importantly no time to dedicate to studying current trends. Far too often I hear stories of how an employee was supposed to be working on a new template based website but it became too time consuming and the template restrictions prevented them from creating the online experience they really wanted. Focus on what your small business is known for and become the best at it. Leave the rest up to the professionals.
Step 5: USE SOCIAL MEDIA
I’m sure you’ve been told before to leverage your followings on social platforms. Websites like Facebook and Twitter provide reasonably priced advertising features which help you get your brand in front of thousands of new customers. Remember to make sure you have a plan for how to harness this newly acquired interest. Consider driving traffic to your website or physical address to turn followers into customers.
